Laura Websdale, Head of HR & Development at the Møller Institute was delighted to announce that Møller Institute have signed the Charter for Employers who are positive about Mental Health, thereby achieving the ‘MINDFUL EMPLOYER®’ status.
Laura explained, “What this means in practice is that we remain committed to creating a supportive and open culture, where colleagues are able to talk about mental health. We also remain committed to ensuring that our team feel safe in disclosing mental health conditions, confident that they will be properly supported. Our staff training and development programme includes regular sessions on ‘Building Personal Resilience’ , ‘How to have Difficult Conversations’ and a ‘Mental Health First Aid Lite’ course, all of which support our positive attitude and approach to the mental health of our team.”
The Møller Institute team have made an ongoing commitment to achieve the following:
- provide non judgemental and pro active support to individual staff who experience mental ill health
- not make assumptions that a person with a mental health condition will be more vulnerable to work place stress or take more time off than any other employee of job applicant
- show a positive and enabling attitude to all employees and job applicants with a mental health condition
- ensure all line managers have access to information about managing mental health in the workplace
- ensure that all staff involved in recruitment and selection are briefed on mental health conditions and The Equality Act 2010, and given appropriate interview skills
- make it clear in any recruitment health check that people who have experienced mental health will not be discriminated against and that disclosure of a mental health problem will enable employee and employer to assess and provide the right level of support or adjustment.
Laura, who is a qualified mental health first aid practitioner, added, “to demonstrate our focus on mental health we will be placing a copy of this charter, which is a valuable statement of our commitment to prospective and current employees who experience mental health, in various locations around the building and demonstrates our focus on mental health to the wider community.
