Adam Freeman

Adam has over 25 years experience working in the City of London as a lawyer, having qualified as a solicitor in 1996 and becoming a partner in 2002. He spent over 15 years as a Partner at a “Magic Circle” law firm, over five of which was spent as Head of Leveraged Finance.

His focus was advising financial institutions and private equity firms in relation to acquisition finance transactions, which included both the initial leveraged buy-out but also subsequent refinancings and restructurings. During his career he worked on some of the largest transactions in the European market. He was intimately involved in the development of new structures and techniques in the European leveraged finance market including the introduction of the second lien product and the advent of “covenant lite” terms.

Adam was part of the Loan Market Association’s technical committee in relation to leveraged finance documentation and he lectured to market participants on key aspects of documentation. He also wrote a number of topical articles for publication in a variety of publications including IFLR and LMA News. He was ranked as a leading practitioner by both the Chambers and Legal 500 directories which benchmark the performance of lawyers in their chosen field.

As Head of Leveraged Finance, Adam was responsible for a large team of lawyers and support staff from the point of their recruitment until they left the firm. This led to an interest in, and focus on, leadership and teamwork. He was a mentor to a large number of lawyers and also an ally to a number of his firm’s LGBT members of staff. He became interested in the various techniques and styles of leadership with a view to developing a culture of elite performance. Adam is also a cancer survivor, having been diagnosed in 2013. This has led to a profound interest in mental toughness and resiliency and how these attributes can be taught and fostered to assist people in coping with pressure whilst avoiding stress.

He is an energetic and charismatic coach and presenter who relishes investing his time in others to develop and improve their skills.
