Sonia Ilie is Professor of Education at the University of Cambridge, where her research focuses on educational inequality and how socio-economic factors can influence young people’s opportunities and outcomes. She has a particular interest in fair access to higher education and how earlier educational experiences impact participation.
Her work explores what makes a difference in creating more equal opportunities in education. Using large-scale datasets, longitudinal studies and experimental research methods, she works with partners to address important questions in education policy.
Sonia also advises universities and other organisations on how to evaluate the impact of their educational interventions. In the Faculty of Education, she co-leads the MPhil in Education Policy Leadership and Improvement.
