RAF International Leadership Conference: Post-Conference Report

RAF International Leadership Conference

In March this year the Møller Institute hosted an unprecedented gathering of individuals responsible for leadership in Air Power. Over 40 senior leaders representing air forces from across the world came together for three days to discuss leadership: its current state, the needs of the future, and actions required today to ensure that leadership is fit for the coming decades.

Convened by the Tedder Academy of Leadership, the Royal Air Force’s centre for developing exceptional leaders and commanders, the conference was hosted by Group Captain Emma Keith, Commandant of the Academy, supported by Richard Hill, Associate at the Møller Institute. Expert speakers included Blair Sheppard (EY and Duke University), Air Vice Marshal Ian “Cab” Townsend (RAF) and Adam Billing and Dr Olivia Remes, Associates at the Møller Institute.

The goal of the conference was to bring global expertise together to begin to navigate a path towards what leadership could and should be in our emerging world, capable of overcoming the rapid change and challenges which we all experience. Through sharing perspectives and experience across contexts the expectation was that a shared understanding could emerge of how we can consider, develop and promote leadership practice.

The Tedder Academy described the event as “a demonstrable call to action for ongoing collaboration. It is the antecedent to future opportunity that should be harnessed across nations and air forces.”

A report detailing some of the insights built, lessons learned and calls to action needed has been written in partnership between the Tedder Academy and the Møller Institute. We are pleased to share it here – the reflections it contains are significant beyond the boundaries of air power, and there are critical thoughts within it which can be applied across boundaries of sector or industry.
